Randy is correct. Some women can go into early menopause in their twenties, while some women can remain (relatively) fertile into their late forties. But beginning in the late 30s the number and quality of eggs that can be recovered through IVF declines rapidly. Many clinics will not accept patients past the age of 43, based on statistical averages. But each patient is an individual and whether a particular individual is “too old” must be determined based on that individual’s own FSH levels, responsiveness to fertility drugs, etc.
